Athenian spirit was paramount at An Evening in Athens, which took place on February 23 at the Round Hill Country Club. The Athenian community was not deterred by the rainy weather as 225 people conversed, bid and danced the evening away in the beautiful and comfortable atmosphere of the club. Thanks to generous bidding, the APA is happy to report that we netted just over $136,000. The majority of these funds will be allocated in support of the School's endowment and scholarship funds with a small portion allocated to the airplane project. We thank the volunteers, trustees, parents, faculty and staff who donated items and their time and energy to make this a fantastically successful community event.

Mt. Diablo Hike and Picnic — 10 SPACES AVAILABLE
There's room for 25 people to join Athenian Director of Admission Chris Beeson and his wife, Athenian alumna Nicola Place '76, on a short hike followed by wine and cheese. The fun starts at their home at 9 am on Saturday, May 31, 2008. The group will hike about three miles up the moderate, partly shaded Dan Cook Trail to Rock City, where light refreshments will be served. From there, an Athenian chauffeur will drive the group to the Sketchley family's extraordinary private garden on the Black Hills Reservoir near the park entrance. There you will enjoy wine, cheese and bread in a naturally landscaped and shaded five-acre lakeside setting. The party is likely to include a lively round of bocce on the family's new court. Wear comfortable hiking shoes, a hat and sunscreen, and be sure to bring along some water.

A’s Game with the Athenian Athletic Department — 29 SPACES AVAILABLE
Open to adults and students
Fifty parents, students, friends and siblings will join Athenian Athletic Director Darek Cliff and other members of the Athletic Department on Saturday, July 12, 2008, to watch the A's take on the L.A. Angels at the McAfee Coliseum in Oakland. Transportation from the Athenian parking lot is included. New this year is an "all-you-can-eat" dinner with hotdogs, nachos, peanuts and soft drinks! The Athenian bus will depart from the main parking lot at 4 pm and return at approximately 10 pm.

Want a great workout? Join Athenian Director of Finance Bob Oxenburgh for an enjoyable day of hiking to the top of Mt. Diablo from Macedo Ranch. This eight-mile hike up the mountain will end with a ride down the mountain, straight to a catered lunch at the beautiful Alamo home of Athenian alum parents Barbro and Aaron Sasson. Enjoy swimming, beer, wine and delicious food while basking in your accomplishment of a long hike! Limited to 30 people.
