Head's Message
Thank you for your interest in The Athenian School. As you learn more about us, I am certain that you will share my enthusiasm for the educational program that we provide and celebrate. Athenian boasts a challenging and enriching curriculum, but at its core, for each decade of our past and well into the future, Athenian is also a community that cares passionately about students and their discovery of personal strengths, development of independence, and respect for individuality.
Rigorous academics remain at the heart of Athenian’s mission. Students challenge themselves, from a wonderfully engaging and advanced Middle School curriculum to extraordinary college level seminars in our Upper School. Throughout our program, learning comes alive as students immerse themselves in stimulating discussions.
Athenian’s talented faculty are invested in students’ intellectual growth as they emphasize inquiry, critical thinking, debate and writing. Interdisciplinary learning flourishes, and the arts are recognized as an essential element of human expression.
Athenian graduates thrive academically in college, but they also leave the School as enthusiastic, life-long learners. At Athenian, students develop an understanding of themselves and how far their hearts and minds can take them. They gain confidence in themselves through the Athenian Wilderness Program. They become invested in personal responsibility and social justice through our widely recognized community service program. They become global ambassadors through the International Program, Round Square and international travel. Most importantly, they leave Athenian as mature and integrated adults with the vision and commitment to assume unique leadership roles in their increasingly complex world.
I am honored to lead a school whose mission exemplifies those qualities so essential to education in the 21st century. The promise of Athenian is a hope for the future. We hope you are as excited as we are to discover a school that helps young people thrive as learners - and become thoughtful, engaged leaders in society as well.
We look forward to talking further with you as you explore our curricular programs and features.
Sincerely,
Eleanor Dase
