Emergency Information
The Athenian School subscribes to ALERTNOW to offer immediate and effective communication to families during an emergency situation. In case of an emergency that impacts Athenian (earthquake, fire, etc.), the School will send a message to families using all domestic phone numbers currently listed in the Student/Parent Directory, through the services of ALERTNOW. This message will be issued within minutes, ensuring that information reaches families quickly.
When receiving the call, the numbers 411 will appear on the caller ID screen, indicating a message through ALERTNOW from Athenian. The message will be repeated to ensure that those called get all the details. If unavailable to answer your phone within 6 rings, ALERTNOW will leave a message on the answering machine/voice mail. If the phone is not answered by either a person or an answering machine/voice mail within 6 rings, ALERTNOW will call again at 3-minute intervals, up to 6 times.
With the implementation of this emergency notification system, it is critical that parents/guardians keep the Admission Office informed of any phone changes by contacting admission@athenian.org or 925-362-7225. The Admission Office will provide ALERTNOW with phone number updates on the first of each month.

Purchasing New and Used Text Books and Workbooks
The Athenian School has teamed with Varsity Books to sell new and used textbooks and new workbooks. The online bookstore will be ready to take your order on August 10. Use your student's class schedule for the new school year to help you decide which books to purchase.
When you are ready to place your order, simply click here. This page identifies required textbooks and workbooks by subject, course title and teacher. If you don't see a course listed, this is an indication that the book(s) will be sold at school or the teacher will provide materials. Shipping is UPS ground and takes 2 - 3 business days, costing about 6-7% of the total order.
There will be no new or used textbooks sold on campus; only paperback books will be sold at school during registration and the remainder of the school year. For more information, please refer to the documents about Varsity Books included in your registration packet, which are also linked here:

Athenian Parent Association (APA)
All parents with students enrolled at Athenian are members of the APA. The APA is a volunteer organization that supports the goals and objectives of The Athenian School by promoting a sense of community among student families, providing strong communication between the parent body and the School's administration and faculty, encouraging volunteerism and raising funds for the sole benefit of The Athenian School.
Email: apa@athenian.org Phone: 925-362-7275
Goals and Leadership of the APA:
Volunteerism: The APA is an active organization thanks to the involvement of committed Athenian families. The National Association of Independent Schools encourages 16-20 hours of service annually per family, and the APA offers a variety of volunteer opportunities. Learn more about volunteer options or contact the APA at apa@athenian.org or 925-362-7275. You may also dowload a volunteer registration form.
Linked here is the APA Expense Reimbursement Form. This document may be used to request reimbursement of authorized expenses related to APA activities and/or events.
Fundraising: Fundraising is a major component of the APA because it provides critical support to Athenian programs. Thanks to the incredible support of the parent community — through volunteering, supporting fundraising events and participating in eScrip and other programs — the APA continues to meet its fundraising goals. Athenian, with input from the APA, decides how to use these funds. Past projects include the Founder's Oak restoration work, gym ventilation, financial aid, renovation of the Student Commons and construction of The Center for the Arts.
Communications: The All-School News is the primary resource for parents seeking school and event information. The Communications Office in the Development Department emails the All-School News monthly during the school year. As needed, the Communications Office emails time-sensitive information via the Athenian Flash.
