The purpose of an Athenian School education is developing each individual to realize the fullest potential. There are many distinctive programs that set The Athenian School apart from other schools, including a focus on developing a sense of personal and community awareness.
Athenian's programs include two distinctive graduation requirements — annual community service and the Athenian Wilderness Experience (AWE). In addition, Athenian offers Round Square international programs (exchanges, community service projects and annual conferences) and an on-campus residential community (international and domestic boarding students, as well as faculty and their families). Other vital programs include the fine and performing arts, athletics, debate and robotics, as well as an airplane construction project. The Network of Complementary Schools
In addition to the many unique programs offered at The Athenian School, students may also apply for brief exchanges (generally two to three weeks in length) through The Network of Complementary Schools. The Network is a unique organization of 22 public and private schools and school systems, located in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, which organizes and sponsors individual student exchanges among member schools. Each of the schools in the Network offers a unique and unusual program. Students who visit a Network school can explore career options, focus on scientific disciplines, learn more about social institutions, pursue artistic interests and study different lifestyles and cultures.
