The Athenian Robotics Collective
The Athenian Robotics Collective (ARC) provides an experiential learning program that allows exploration into engineering for those who participate. For some students, this may be a springboard into a high technology career. For others, it is a fascinating hobby that compliments science education at Athenian.
ARC has its own website—feel free to visit at www.athenianrobotics.org.
The FIRST Foundation's competition—For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology—gives students the opportunity to design, program and build a robot to compete with other robots in regional and potentially national competitions.
ARC/Team 852 just recently took second place at the Silicon Valley Regional FIRST Robotics competition held at San Jose State University on March 15-17, 2007. ARC/Team 852 will next travel to the Davis Sacramento Regional FIRST Robotics competition at U.C. Davis from March 29-31.
During the 2005-06 school year, the Athenian Robotics Collective (ARC) came away with two outstanding wins from the FIRST Robotics Competition, at the Sacramento Davis Regional event held at the U.C. Davis campus on Friday and Saturday, March 24-25, 2006. ARC took first place in the overall competition and won the General Motors Industrial Design Award. Due to these wins, ARC then traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, to compete in the National Championship in the Georgia Dome with other regional FIRST winners on April 26-29, where Athenian placed 13th out of 86 teams in their division.
