  • Campus & Sustainability

A Place to Learn, Play & Explore
Athenian lies at the base of Mt. Diablo on 75 acres of California foothills. With the gift of so much space, our learning environments are scattered across the campus. As a boarding school, there is ample room to learn, play, and explore.

An Evolving Environment

Athenian’s campus is continuously evolving. The most recent additions include a new Main Hall with dining facilities, the Carter Innovation Studio, and three new classroom buildings. We have made significant improvements in ensuring that Athenian is an ADA accessible campus.

There is no other campus in the Bay Area where connection to nature is such a big a part of daily life. Students, faculty, and residents enjoy a pool, turf soccer field, fitness center, a disc golf course, two gyms, a one-mile trail, a dance studio and music practice rooms, an interfaith space, a meditation room, a large dining hall, a blackbox theater, and open space to explore, relax, and just be outside.

As one of our six pillars, environmentalism guides many of Athenian’s sustainability practices and attention is paid to maintain the watershed in which we are situated. Athenian gets more than 50 percent of its energy from solar panels and we save water with turf fields, native plants, and drip irrigation. Our business office and facilities management teams take care to use safe cleaners, and they compost and recycle as much as possible.

Athenian is a member of the Green Schools Alliance, a consortium of public and private schools working together to conserve resources and reduce greenhouse emissions.

  • Environmentally Sustainable

    Transportation
Athenian students come from all over the Bay Area. As a school that values environmentalism, we encourage our families to bike or walk to school if you live close to campus or to carpool or take one of our buses if you live further away. We have three bus routes providing transportation from Oakland to Dublin and Pleasanton. Four of our bus pickup locations are at BART stations (Oakland, Orinda, Pleasanton and Lafayette), allowing students to use BART to get to our buses from other parts of the East Bay.
