COVID-19 Information and Updates

Thursday Message from Eric Niles

March 26, 2020

Dear Athenian Parents,
We are busy preparing for distance/online learning through May 4th. Look for an email early next week from Lauren or Amy describing any schedule or other needed changes that will occur after spring break (April 13).
As many of you know, our AWE students are returning from their journey in Death Valley on Monday. We will find a time to celebrate their return at some point, but please do not come to campus on Monday unless you are a direct family member coming to pick up your student. Unfortunately, cancelling our usual Run-In tradition was the only responsible option at this time.
Please sign up here for our first virtual (Zoom) “Coffee and Conversation” on Tuesday, March 31 at 11:00 AM. We will talk about supporting our own and student wellness during this difficult time, and I will be joined by Mark Lukach. Mark teaches in both the Upper and Middle School. He is also the Ninth Grade Dean and the author of an international bestselling memoir on the topic of mental health. For video clips and articles by Mark, please click here
Stay well and I hope to see you (virtually) soon.
Eric F. Niles
Head of School

Athletics Update

In an effort to limit gatherings, all athletics events and practices are suspended until after Spring Break.

We realize that this news is disappointing and upsetting for our student-athletes and supporters, and we recognize the dedication and hard work of our student-athletes and coaches. We look forward to the resumption of all athletic events! Stay healthy, stay fit, and Go Owls!

Preventive Measures

  • Distance learning began March 16.
  • Athenian is currently closed to the public and non-essential visitors are not allowed on campus.
  • We have increased routine cleaning and disinfection rounds of surfaces like doorknobs, light switches, and desks.
  • We have purchased an electrostatic sprayer to efficiently disinfect buildings.
  • We have increased communications to students about standard flu protocols, including washing hands regularly, covering coughs with a tissue followed by handwashing, and using hand sanitizer when unable to wash hands.
