The Athenian Coop

A Cooperative Internship and Mentorship Program

The Athenian School Alumni Association is thrilled to be kicking off the inaugural year of the Athenian Coop program. Our goal is to connect current students and young alumni with Athenian alumni, parents and friends who are already established in the workforce. Through internship and mentorship offerings, we:

  • Prepare students for the real world of work.
  • Ensure opportunities for our students and alumni in a tough economy.
  • Augment the assistance alumni receive from their college career offices.
  • Create stronger ties between The Athenian School and its wide range of constituencies.
  • Expose Athenian students and alumni to various industries for future employment consideration.
The Coop is a coordinated effort between students, Athenian community members, work-site supervisors, and Athenian staff coordinators.

  • Mentor Program

The mentor program is a great option for those who want to help in the development of our students, but may not have a summer internship to offer. The program links Athenian students to Athenian community members in prospective fields of interest. The Alumni Office is seeking alumni and Athenian friends to share valuable college and career experiences with students and assist in “coaching” them as they earn their degrees and begin their careers. Athenian students have expressed interest in entrepreneurship, the arts, business, medicine, computer science, engineering, law, education, and culinary arts (among others).

Mentorships may take the following form:

Career Forum – For those who are interested in sharing college and professional experiences with a group of seniors after school. You will take part in a series of discussions with seniors who want to expand their awareness and knowledge of career possibilities.

    One on One
     – You can sign up to speak individually with current students and young alumni about your college and professional experiences, offering insights through phone, email, or Skype. This is a unique opportunity for students who want to seek one-on-one advice from an alums on professional development in a field of interest.

     – This option is for you if you feel the best way for a student to understand your work is to see you in action. This type of experience allows students to see first-hand the daily life of a professional.
  • Summer Internships

Student and young alumni interns can pursue genuine interests beyond the curricular offerings of Athenian, broaden their experiences and gain insight into career opportunities and first job prospects. This program gives students the opportunity to apply their skills while still in high school and college, gain on-the-job experience, and "try out" a career before graduation.

We are looking for internship opportunities (paid or unpaid) with valuable learning experiences, measurable objectives, and performance evaluations. Reach out to us if you’re interested in supporting our students and young alumni, but may not have a full summer internship to offer. A mentorship is an opportunity for a student or alum to gain enough knowledge to decide if a particular career might be of long-term interest to them. Mentorships may be a few days to a few months.
