Community Education Series: Daniel Ziblatt (CANCELLED)

Author of New York Times Bestselling book, How Democracies Die
The survival of our democracy depends not just on having a well-crafted constitution and laws but on deeply embedded unwritten rules or norms that govern how politicians and citizens interact with each other. The author of the New York Times best-selling book, How Democracies Die, will discuss how two of our society's political norms--mutual tolerance and political self-restraint--have begun to fray in our society. The erosion of democratic norms and growing polarization threaten the well-being of our democracy. In his talk, Athenian alum Daniel Ziblatt '90 will draw on historical examples and recent innovations in our society to discuss how we can address the difficult dilemmas facing our democracy.
