Global Citizenship

Become a Citizen of the World

The world is in need of more adept and creative problem solvers, and as an Athenian graduate, you'll be prepared to make a positive impact as a global citizen. Because our school community, by design, includes international families and participates in a worldwide consortium of schools, you'll have the chance to practice seeing issues from many points of view, as well as opportunities to explore the Bay Area's many cultural offerings and attend international conferences. In our international and multicultural community, students appreciate and respect cultures, religions and languages other than their own, and see themselves as genuinely global citizens.

Collaboration among people of different backgrounds and life experiences is imperative for success in the 21st century. The Athenian School will prepare you to be a leader in a global society by being in a student body that is culturally, geographically, and socioeconomically diverse. By collaborating with your diverse peers, you will develop greater cultural competence and be prepared to explore and make an impact on the world.
"I learned so much about myself as a person and about different cultures from all over the world. It is one thing to learn about other countries, but actually experiencing firsthand the way people live and act from around the world is completely different." - Genevieve D. '18 on going to a Young Round Square Conference in South Africa

Young Round Square

Athenian is a member of Young Round Square, a junior level association of Round Square International, which provides opportunities and challenges for students in grades 6-8. Middle School students can attend international conferences, take leadership roles that promote activism, learn leadership skills, and participate in exchange programs. Athenian will be hosting the Young Round Square of the Americas Conference 2015-2016 and will host student and teacher delegations from North and South America.
