S2: PM Half Day
Ultimate Engineering & Shop is an exciting experience aimed at introducing campers to engineering ideas, innovation and problem solving in a small group environment. Be a part of transforming how young women and young men think and learn about the world around them. This hands-on, project-based shop experience is a chance for campers to work in an all-girls or coed program while learning to apply their interests in science, art, and engineering to creating, innovating, designing, and building real solutions to problems. In a low pressure, high productivity environment, campers will discover new avenues of learning. No experience necessary.
Campers will be taught how to safely use a variety of power tools (including the metal lathe, milling machine, MIG welder, CNC router) in preparation for a project that they will initiate. Students can learn about computer-aided design and rapid prototyping using the laser cutting and 3D Printing equipment as well as use the resources of Athenian’s Robotics Program, Electric Car Program, and Two Person Airplane Building Program.
Lori Harsch, a mechanical engineer, member of the Interdisciplinary Program Faculty, and Athenian Innovation Space & Shop Manager, will share her skills while guiding students to develop their ideas. A gifted teacher, coach, and mentor, this will be Lori’s third summer season working young people in the exciting world of engineering and science.
