Build deep understanding in and out of the classroom.

It comes through experience—real, direct, hands-on contact with our subject matter. It’s a concept that inspired our founder, Dyke Brown, some 30 years before our founding, and it’s still at our core today. This is where learning becomes unbounded. Our students go deep, get granular, and approach coursework in new and meaningful ways to find the unexpected answers and unseen connections. Then they reflect, analyze, and experiment—all in the name of profound understanding and lasting knowledge. This is how Athenians learn best.

Thought-provoking signature offerings.

The Athenian experiential approach powers our curriculum, plus a selection of programs designed to supercharge the coursework. Our Middle School students spend a day each week making serious connections during their Focus Day. In the Upper School, they dive into one course over two weeks in March Term, spend 26 days in High Sierras or Death Valley reshaping the way they think and collaborate, and head to South Africa, Greece, Colombia, and more for exchanges, conferences and service projects. This is what boundless opportunity looks like.
