Innovation Program

Imagine, Innovate and Create

The Carter Innovation Studio immerses students in Athenian’s hands-on, interdisciplinary approach to education that emphasizes active learning, making and risk-taking. The 5,200 square foot studio is a hub of activity that includes three classrooms, an open shop area that houses metal and woodworking tools, an industrial arts area and a computer/CADD/3-D printer space. Its central location at the heart of Athenian’s campus makes for an inviting space that sparks exploration for a wide range of students. On any given day you might see a student using woodworking tools for an artistic creation along side a student immersed in designing and building an emergency medicine carrying drone. The possibilities are limitless.

The studio serves as the home to our engineering, robotics and entrepreneurship programs, but is used by classes across disciplines and grades. It is not uncommon to see Middle School students in the space for a Friday Focus Day or Upper School art, math or world language class taking an "on campus" field trip.
