Favorite Athenian Class: The Art of Memoir, English seminar
What is your favorite Athenian memory, class, or experience?Athenian provided so many learning experiences in and outside of the classroom. As a tenth grader, I traveled to Kenya and Tanzania. Alongside a group of 15 other students, I visited the Starehe School in Nairobi, Kenya and taught English at a primary school in Tanzania. We also hiked to the first hut of Mt. Kilimanjaro and went on a week-long safari in the Serengeti. It was an incredible opportunity to be completely immersed in a different culture. In the classroom, I received comprehensive, individualized feedback from my teachers and Athenian’s small class size and seminar format of the humanities courses allowed my writing skills to flourish. Developing strong writing skills in a close-knit environment has been invaluable in conducting college-level writing and research. It’s also helped me feel more prepared to lead clubs communicate effectively in job interviews, and approach professors during office hours.
