FAQs:

List of 6 frequently asked questions.

  • Who would be a great Queer Counselor in Training?

Rising 8th through 10th graders (current 7th-9th graders)* who identify as part of or are allies to the LGBTQIA+ Community!

All individuals are encouraged to apply, regardless of affinity, identity, or experience!

No background or experience required - we welcome teens to come as they are and to be open to learn, grow, build relationships, and stretch their comfort zones. Whether learning to express and own their identities in creative ways, understanding their role as allies and advocates for the LGBTQIA+ community, and/or learning about queer history for the first time, opportunities for a sense of belonging will inspire newfound confidence and the discovery of new passions all while building skills of advocacy and leadership.
  • Where do campers sleep and what does that look like for attendees?

The Q.CIT will have genderless dorm housing and bathrooms, and adult LGBTQIA+ staff as mentors and teachers. Dormitories have single rooms with one camper per room, as well as private bathrooms that campers use one-at-a-time.

We will provide more detailed information regarding dormitory living to accepted students and their families.
  • How much will it cost to attend QCIT?

    • True sliding scale (pay what you can) or free!
    • Cost per teen covered by Athenian: $2,000
*All room, board, meals, activities, and transportation will be provided during the 9 day experience.
  • How are meals handled on the school's campus?

Meals are provided by our school’s kitchen staff, and food allergies and restrictions are carefully planned for. We will provide more information regarding dormitory living to accepted families.
  • Who should I contact with any further questions?

    • Yes! Personal devices are allowed and we will have opportunities to call/contact home

    • We also have a letters from home program, where parents drop off a letter at the start of camp which we will “send” to Q.CITs  throughout their overnight experience
