Affinity Camps

The Affinity Camp Program brings together students from diverse backgrounds to participate in a unique and adventure-filled summer camp at no cost or pay-what-you-can. This year, we will host two camps, a Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) Camp, and Queer Counselors in Training (QCIT). Our vision is to create an affirming space for students to connect authentically with peers and mentors of similar backgrounds and realize their power to make a difference in each others' lives as a collective force for change. Campers will create lifelong memories all while having some serious fun!

BIPOC Camp - July 8 - 20

Athenian's BIPOC Affinity Camp was founded in 2021 in partnership with the Attles Center for Excellence, and provides a two-week, overnight summer camp free of charge or "pay-what-you-can" for rising 7th and 8th grade BIPOC campers.

Our aim is for BIPOC youth to connect over leadership skill development, innovation and design, and outdoor adventure. Themes of belonging and identity are woven throughout the program and campers participate in facilitated reflections on self-advocacy and determination within the education system. The transition between middle school and high school is a critical one, and we help students think through their style of learning, personal needs for academic success, and ways to advocate for themselves as youth of color. Our hope is to support campers in the realization of their power to make a difference in each others' lives as a collective force for change.

Queer Counselors in Training - June 16 - 23

Our vision is for Queer Counselors in Training (QCIT) to find their people, feel safe, proud and affirmed, and realize their power to make a difference in their community and beyond. This camp is open to those who identify as LGBTQIA+ or allies who are rising 8th, 9th, or 10th graders. Like the BIPOC affinity camp, the QCIT program will be free of charge or "pay-what-you-can."
