Working at Athenian Summer Programs provides a dynamic opportunity for caring, dedicated people to be teachers, camp counselors, residential counselors for our Affinity Camps, lifeguards, and swim instructors. We want people who are passionate about making each camper’s day the best day possible. We want people who can model a positive, welcoming and inclusive culture for our campers, and also contribute to the silly, high-energy camp vibe.

  • BIPOC Camp Operations & Program Manager

    Job Summary: In close collaboration with the Co-Directors and Counselors of BIPOC Camp, the Operations and Program Manager(OPM) will help lead our BIPOC camp program to success for both staff and campers. The OPM will ensure the logistics of camp runs smoothly, including supporting with: camper form/information completion, meals/snacks coordination, field trip logistics, health, safety and emergency procedures (working in tandem with school nurse), facilities coordination, camp set up/clean up, camper arrival and departure logistics, and staff appreciation logistics. Additionally the OPM will also live on campus in the dorms with campers/counselors, and plan/coordinate specific night-time programs/activities and dorm procedures. Finally the OPM will be responsible for social media and photo/marketing collection materials during camp.

    Job Summary: Counselors are the primary supervisors and mentors for their campers—playing a significant role in meeting important community and identity outcomes for campers. They hold the key responsibility of being the #1 staff member that campers will associate their camp experience with. Counselors rotate living in the campus dorms with campers and other counselors and support individual campers’ growth as well as the group dynamics by participating in all-camp programming together, eating meals with campers, and creating dorm programming. Counselors work in collaboration with many other staff members to grow in their youth development skills and facilitation/planning skills.

  • Camp Counselor

    Job Summary:
    A Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for planning and implementing the summer camp activities in conjunction with their program director and lead teachers as appropriate. The Summer Camp Counselors will oversee a small group of campers, participate in all camp activities, supervise a small group during lunch, and supervise campers during morning/afternoon care, pick-up/drop-off, the swim period (in or out of the pool), and on field trips.   • Innovation Studio Teacher's Assistant

    Job Summary:
    Enrichment Class Teacher’s Assistance provides assistance to Enrichment Teachers in assigned camps/classes, such as:  Innovation Studio I and II, Woodshop, Roblox Studio Game Design, etc. (any other class additions will adhere to same pay rate). TA supports the implementation of meaningful and fun context of learning for all students, including connecting with campers in and out of the classroom: setting up materials, helping with specific students needs, supporting use of machines in the shop, etc.

  • Queer Counselors in Training Residential Counselor

Counselors will report to the QCIT Camp Co-Director, working in collaboration with many other staff members to grow in their youth development skills and facilitation/planning skills. Counselors are expected to be part of the residential experience, and dormitory housing and food are provided as part of this role. Counselors must also be able to participate in the full range of camp offerings, including hiking, SF field trips, etc.

  • Summer Lifeguard/Swim Instructor

    Job Summary: 
    A Summer Camp Lifeguard is responsible for the safety of all pool activities, swim lessons as assigned, and pool area care in conjunction with the Aquatic Program Director and Head Lifeguard. Lifeguards, while focused on pool activities, will ensure the safety and wellness of all the program participants.  The Swim Instructor is responsible for private and group lessons with the goal of advancing swimmers from their current skill level to the next.  (Work hours may begin as early as 9:30am and may end as late as 5:30pm but start and end work assignments depend on enrollment)

    Please note, Lifeguards/Swim Instructors may be required to support camp programming on Friday field trips on in other areas of camp outside of the pool.

  • Summer Logistics Coordinator

    Job Summary:
    A Summer Logistics Support is responsible for supporting Director of Summer Programs and After School Enrichment in all day-to-day activities of Athenian Summer Programs. The Summer Logistics Support will help set up/break down camp, manage supplies, support pick-up/drop-off, manage attendance, confirm all bus riders make it onto their appropriate busses, manage that all kids make it to their swim lessons on time, create camp rosters for each camp/class, support family communications and social media, participate in camp wherever needed, help in maintaining a smooth camp experience for all campers, staff, and families.

  • Summit Seekers Instructor

    Job Summary: 
    A Summer Summit Seekers morning Instructor is responsible for planning and implementing the summer camp activities in conjunction with their program director and lead teachers as appropriate. The Summit Seekers Morning Instructors plan and run morning class activities for Summit Seekers camp, and manage counselors and CITs who may be in their classroom to support. Summit Seekers Morning Instructors  will ensure the safety and wellness of all the program participants.

Summer Programs:

Athenian Summer Programs is a unique combination of academic, athletic, and artistic opportunities for students throughout the East Bay. Our goal is to offer children from elementary school through high school fun, exciting, and meaningful learning experiences.  We do this through a wide variety of programs designed to improve skills, enhance learning, and build confidence.

Keeping campers interested in learning during the summer is accomplished through the expertise and enthusiasm of our extraordinary staff. We have developed classes and activities that we know are enriching and rewarding. We are confident families will find our unique campus and summer programs to be a valuable part of the continuing education of their child and remembered long after summer ends.

This is a seasonal position.  All employees are offered a daily prepared lunch.  (Breakfast and dinner may also be available when residential programs are on site.) Children of summer employees are welcome to participate free of charge in summer programs for which the children are the appropriate age during the employees’ summer employment work hours.  If an employee would like to enroll their child for programs beyond their work hours, he/she can do so at a 50% discounted rate.  (This does not include private swim lessons or CITs)  Athenian is a smoke-free environment.
